Buyer's guide: Marketing, agencies and consulting

    Last reviewed

    What it is

Agencies and ad platforms that bring shoppers to your store or site: search ads, social ads, email, websites, video and print. Some specialize in furniture; others serve many industries.

    What to look for

    • Experience with furniture stores and numbers from similar clients
    • Reports you can read that tie spend to calls, visits and sales
    • Who owns the ad accounts, website and creative at the end
    • A clear scope: what you get each month for the fee
    • Honest advice on budget, including when not to spend

    Questions to ask a vendor

    • Which of your furniture clients can I speak with?
    • Do we own our ad accounts and data in our own name?
    • How do you count a lead or a sale, and who checks it?
    • What is the contract length and how do I leave?
    • Who will do the work day to day?

    How pricing usually works

A monthly retainer, a share of ad spend, a project fee, or a mix. Ad spend itself is paid separately to the ad platforms. Ask for a written scope and what is not included.
