Buyer's guide: E-sign and credit applications

    Last reviewed

    What it is

Tools to sign contracts and handle credit applications electronically, and to check credit and identity. In a store they replace paper deposit slips, financing forms and delivery waivers.

    What to look for

    • Signatures that are legally valid and kept as a record
    • Templates for your deposit, delivery and financing forms
    • Connection to your POS and financing partners
    • Fraud and identity checks without slowing a sale
    • Fees per document or per application

    Questions to ask a vendor

    • Which of our existing forms can be set up as templates?
    • Where are signed documents kept and for how long?
    • How do you protect customers' personal and credit data?
    • What is the price per signature or application at our volume?
    • Does it work on a tablet in the showroom and on a phone?

    How pricing usually works

Usually a monthly plan by number of users or documents, or a small fee per signature. Credit and identity checks are often charged per report. Ask what is charged when a form is not completed.
