    Buyer's guide: Logistics and delivery

    Last reviewed

    What it is

Services and software that get furniture from the warehouse into the customer's home: delivery crews, white-glove service with setup, route planning, customer tracking and outsourced warehousing and fulfillment (3PL).

    What to look for

    • Coverage of the zip codes you sell to, and what happens outside them
    • Crews trained for in-home setup, stairs and removal of packaging
    • Delivery windows and tracking the customer can see
    • Damage rules, photos at drop-off and who pays for a claim
    • Reports on late and failed deliveries

    Questions to ask a vendor

    • Which areas do you serve with your own crews and which with partners?
    • What is the process and the cost when a customer is not home?
    • How is damage reported, and how fast are claims settled?
    • What does a typical late-delivery rate look like for your furniture clients?
    • Can you connect to our order system, or do we send files?

    How pricing usually works

Per delivery or per stop, with extras for stairs, setup, haul-away and long distances. Software is a monthly fee by driver or delivery volume. Warehouses charge for space and handling. Ask for the full price list, not only the base rate.
