What the rule says
Under Washington's Safer Products for Washington rule, no one may manufacture, sell or distribute leather and textile furniture and furnishings intended for indoor use that contain intentionally added PFAS from January 1, 2026, except products manufactured before that date and repair or replacement parts for them. Ecology presumes that detection of total fluorine indicates intentional PFAS addition, and a manufacturer can rebut the presumption with a statement and credible evidence. Leather and textile furniture and furnishings for outdoor use are subject to a notification requirement to Ecology, due every January 31.
