    What the rule says

AB 1817 (Stats. 2022, ch. 762; Health and Safety Code 108970 et seq.) bars manufacturing, distributing, selling or offering for sale new textile articles - a term that includes furnishings and upholstery - that contain regulated PFAS. "Regulated PFAS" means intentionally added PFAS or PFAS at or above 100 parts per million total organic fluorine from January 1, 2025, dropping to 50 ppm from January 1, 2027. Manufacturers must use the least toxic alternative and give sellers a certificate that the article contains no regulated PFAS; distributors and retailers that rely on the certificate in good faith are not in violation.
