    What the rule says

Freestanding clothing storage units (dressers, chests of drawers, armoires, bureaus) manufactured after September 1, 2023 must meet ASTM F2057-23, which CPSC made a mandatory federal standard under the STURDY Act. The standard covers units 27 inches or taller, 30 lb or heavier, with 3.2 cubic feet or more of enclosed storage, and requires stability testing that simulates a child climbing (60 lb), carpet, loaded drawers and multiple open drawers, an anti-tip device packaged with the unit, and permanent warning labels. Manufacturers and importers must certify compliance in a Children's Product Certificate or General Certificate of Conformity that cites 16 CFR part 1261.
